Braeside Neighbourhood Information

Originally established in 1965, Braeside is a quiet residential neighborhood in southwest Calgary nestled in between Anderson Road to the north, Southland Drive to the south, 14th Street to the west, and 24th Street to the east. This community maintains a population of 6,000 residents who are situated amidst two of Calgary’s most well-known green spaces including Fish Creek Provincial Park and the Glenmore Reservoir. The recreational opportunities offered here and the sense of exploration that perpetuates the kilometres of marked trails criss-crossing Braeside and the surrounding area makes it a desirable community for many. Single-family bungalows, condominiums, apartment units, and split-level homes are the primary dwellings seen in Braeside, with approximately 20% of these being used for renting purposes.

Public school students in Braeside attend the neighborhood’s own Braeside Elementary before being assigned to John Ware Junior High and Henry Wise Wood Senior High School. Meanwhile Catholic school students are assigned to St. Benedict Elementary, St. Cyril Junior High or St. Matthew Junior High, and then complete their education at Bishop Grandin Senior High School.

In addition to the green spaces that blanket much of the area, Braeside is within close proximity to two strip malls – one on Southland Drive, and another on the corner of 24th Street and Braeside Drive. Within these facilities, there are multiple retail and dining outfits that suit the needs of residents – many of which are seniors and families.

Calgary Transit maintains several bus stops set up to provide easy transportation for residents in need of affordable transportation to visit other areas of the city.

Whether it’s spring, summer, fall, or winter, there’s never a shortage of things to do in Braeside. Dip a paddle, cast a line, spin your wheel, or take a walk. With dozens of opportunities to get involved in the community, Braeside is one of a small handful of communities in Calgary’s southwest that form a tight-knit group of family-based neighborhoods.
