Lake Bonavista Community Information

Lake Bonavista is an acclaimed neighborhood in the southeastern portion of Calgary. This community of 11,000 people are set in a neighborhood with its boundaries at Anderson Road to the north, Macleod Trail to the west, Canyon Meadows Drive to the south, and Bow Bottom Trail to the east. Originally established in the late 1960s as the first neighborhood in all of Canada to be planned around a lake, it would serve as a prototype to other similar Calgary communities. Throughout the decades, several businesses have moved on to nearby properties. These have created several amenities for residents to benefit from including the Bonavista Square shopping complex, the Avenida Shopping Centre, and an assorted collection of upmarket restaurants.

Public school students of Lake Bonavista attend the nearby Andrew Sibbald Elementary or Lake Bonavista Elementary, Nickle Junior High, and Dr. E. P. Scarlett Senior High School. Catholic school students are assigned to attend St. Boniface Elementary, St. Bonaventure Junior High, and Bishop Grandin Senior High School.

The neighborhood is one that appeals to families of mid-to-upper class with median household incomes of $100,000 and above. Many of the amenities that surround Lake Bonavista are in line with the expectations of residents in the neighborhood. There is much access to shopping areas including those along Macleod Trail and in the Southcentre Mall, Fish Creek Park offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities and borders Lake Bonavista to the south, and the manmade lakes that occupy the community are certainly an amenity that have added much property value for residents in close proximity.

Calgary Transit offers residents quick access to the downtown centre of Calgary among other areas of Calgary with several bus stops located all throughout Lake Bonavista. Residents who lack their own independent method of transportation are encouraged to take advantage of the public transit available.

Primarily residential, Lake Bonavista is a very calm, relaxed community that appeals to families and retirees that are looking for a unique neighborhood where they can hang their hat at the end of the day.
