Mckenzie Towne Community Information

Tucked in between Deerfoot Trail to the west, the Stoney Trail to the south, 52nd Street to the east, and the South Trail regional commercial centre to the north is the master planned residential neighborhood of McKenzie Towne. The seeds of this pristine community were originally planted by its developers in the early 2000s and since then, Brookfield Residential Properties have gone on to bring in nearly 17,000 residents onto its properties. The neotraditional McKenzie Towne represents a small town residential feel complemented with street front retail, midsized commercial offerings, and a wide variety of properties designed to entice the whole family. Highly regarded in the City of Calgary, McKenzie Towne is known internationally as one of the top master planned communities in the entire world, as stated by the Urban Land Institute.

Public school students in McKenzie Towne are designated to attend McKenzie Lake Elementary, Mountain Park Junior High, and Lord Beaverbrook Senior High School while Catholic school students attend Blessed Cardinal Newman Elementary and Junior High before graduating to attend Bishop O’Byrne Senior High School.

The neighborhood hosts a network of paved pathways, green spaces, and parks. Very much planned as a family-friendly space, there’s a fountain and splash park, an outdoor skate park/hockey rink, and ponds that complement McKenzie Towne’s exquisite nature. At the neighborhood’s town hall, there are many recreational features offered there designed to entice different demographics including seasonal activities and programming, a gymnasium, a meeting and banquet facility, and a private outdoor park. Those wishing to indulge their shopping woes can do so in the High Street streetscape-style shopping centre with a number of retail outlets, smaller chain, and restaurants set up in alignment.

Calgary Transit offers dozens of bus stops stationed throughout McKenzie Towne to assist residents in visiting other parts of the city at an affordable cost. Adjacent to the High Street shopping area of McKenzie Towne is a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line that will bring a resident straight to the downtown area. There are presently plans in place to turn this BRT line into an LRT line however a time frame has yet to be determined on when this development is expected to begin.

McKenzie Towne’s unique areas of Inverness, Elgin, Prestwick, and High Street each display a themed planning and architecture that make McKenzie Towne one of Calgary’s most unique communities. The neighborhood carries with it several tag lines such as “A Small Towne in the City” and with reason – Brookfield Residential Properties have developed this area to match its promise and it has.
