Originally established in 1911, Montgomery is found the southern slope of the Bow River Valley escarpment in Calgary’s northwest. With a population of nearly 4,000 living within this popular Calgary neighbourhood, Montgomery is bordered by Shaganappi Trail to its’ east, Market Mall to the north, and the Bow River to its’ south and west. The natural layout of the land has led to a wide range of different housing developments unique to the area – a number of which feature majestic views of the Bow River and a full view of the Douglas fir tree forest on the other side of the river, which has trees within it over 400 years old. Complete with one of Calgary’s newest Business Revitalization Zone, Montgomery’s residents and businesses are working together to create a better community for all to enjoy in the years to come.

Public school students in Montgomery attend the nearby Terrace Road elementary, F.E. Osborne junior high, and Bowness senior high school while Catholic school students attend the Our Lady of the Assumption elementary and junior high, and St. Mary’s or St. Francis’ senior high school.

Montgomery is unique in that it is the gateway into Calgary as you drive in from the west on the TransCanada Highway. The community is set up with some of the best recreational facilities of any neighbourhood in the city with Shouldice Park offering fields for football, baseball, and soccer as well as having an indoor pool, tennis courts, and a designated picnic area along the Bow River. Not only is Market Mall to its’ north but Montgomery also has its’ own shopping centre anchored by a Safeway grocery store. The Alberta Children’s Hospital, the University of Calgary, and downtown are all within only two minutes’ drive. The community’s main street is currently undergoing a redesign with a new condo building, a pocket park, and new banners being setup to further beautify the area. Home to over 100 businesses, Montgomery has all the ingredients to become one of the city’s future jewels in the near future.

There are numerous Calgary Transit stops set up throughout Montgomery allowing residents the opportunity to visit other areas of the city without issue.

Montgomery has a charm and character to it unlike what can be found in other areas of the city. Located to a wide range of amenities, it has become one of the go-to communities for young professionals working from downtown as well as students travelling to the University of Calgary. Montgomery’s proximity to the Bow River and the city’s pathway system are also a favourite among new residents as well.
